This, twenty minutes north:
And I didn't even have to put on my driving gloves for this:
Even more glorious though were the people. I'm not sure if it's a Pacific Northwest trait or one exclusive to Bellingham, but people are generally a lot nicer. It didn't take much effort for this introvert to strike up a conversation. Whether it be with the suspiciously tanned male clerk at the co-op, or the pizza tosser at the farmer's market, one of my favourite past times was walking around town and prattling about.
I must really love you Bellingham if I started my first post on a positive note rather than a negative one. The obvious being rain. There's a reason why a stranger told you, "It's a gorgeous part of the country, but try to escape twice a year. Once in the fall, once in the spring. Then, you'll love it". He was right. November is brutal. June is known as "Juneuary", and summer really doesn't begin until July 4th. I was ready to call it quits the summer of 2011. Tt lasted for four weeks and barely crossed 75 degrees. Yet, I stayed. I'm so glad I did because I learned why the suspiciously tanned clerk is tan year round -- he escapes often.

Eight anchors, pretty high. After four years I was used to the rain but my hair wasn't. Light misty rain + wavy/curly/coarse hair = not cute.
