San Antonio, TX

San Antonio suffers from extreme parallax. (Don't worry, it's not a plague. It's actually a cool scientific phenomenon.) My cousin thinks "It's a great city!" My friend, "A small, boring town". And a gent I met recently, "It's nice..." See? Extreme. What do I think of it? Well, to his "nice" with three ellipses I concurred without a contraction and an exclamation* "It is nice! Come on, isn't the River Walk beautiful? I haven't seen anything like it in the states."

"River Walk? What's that?", my equally nomadic friend.

"I've never been to Italy, and this is probably a blasphemous comparison, but imagine a canal or two of Venice in America."
"That sounds lovely!"
"It is!"
"Actually, they have gondolas in San Antonio as well..." The gent, could you tell?

I ain't gonna lie, his ellipses are warranted. San Antonio is a bit overrun with tourists between the River Walk and the Alamo about a block away from each other. But I also noticed a heck of a lot of families with young ones in tow enjoying a night downtown. How many cities can boast that? Not a lot. It's reassuring to see when so many of our downtowns turn into ghost towns towards dusk. So if you're 21 like my cousin, it is a great city. If you grew up in San Antonio like my friend, I'd think it was a boring, small town by the time I was 38 as well. And if you're the gent whose entire family moved there recently, no matter your perspective, that just might say it all.

Six anchors, considering I don't have a brood nor a litter. But say I was poppin' them like a rabbit, then I'd surely add an anchor or two. I'm pretty certain San Antonio's public school system cemented my uncle's decision to raise his family here. For someone who takes pictures of snow crystals like a National Geographic photographer, this speaks volumes.
