Jackson Hole, WY

I can assure you, that regardless if you're male, female, straight, gay, trans, queer, asexual, or alien, there is a pubescent teenage boy within all of us. And maybe, maybe, if we let his crass wily ways manifest every so often, he'll remind everyone to stop being so darn serious all the time.

I mean, it's a fur jockstrap...

And yes, though Jackson Hole was once known as Jackson's Hole because Mr. Jackson felt like he was descending into one entering this valley, frankly my edit from 'old' to 'wild' is more fitting for any islander/suburbanite/urbanite/hippie, or, if you're like your author, any islander-suburbanite-urbanite-hippie. Regardless your designation, when you come across posters for bear spray and an archway that looks like it was built from birch only from afar, it's a good reminder that your Kansas is nowhere near the charming cantina you're dining in.

But what really had me checking my coordinates like a frontiersman, was seeing folks (that they were, twice removed probably) grind down (not on! umm...that just would not be right) the dance floor more than my Columbian sister-in-law. A gal who remedies her bouts of sadness with a turn and swirl of salsa. (Granted some of us do the same with a preferably blue, crunchy, and slightly salty partner.)

Lonely Planet* had me believing that Jackson Hole is another Sundance, UT. It's not, and I doubt it ever will be. The town has a lone character evolved from an old, and far from wild history, something you can't capture when it's scripted by a Hollywood celebrity.

Grand Teton National Park

Oh Lonely Planet, the city books may list the valley as Jackson Hole and the town itself as Jackson, but even the locals don't call their town Jackson like your square editors. It's okay, I still love you, and they're just doing their job.

Seven anchors. Though the islander relished every stranger's "Howdy", and the suburbanite was thrilled to dine on sushi by the foothills of a national park -- which some homes claim as their backyard -- this alone had the hippie preoccupied with budgeting and forecasting the entire four days -- the hippie! In the end, it was the urbanite who held the most vociferous, and perhaps realistic opinion for your author as a whole. "If I see another painting of a bear or a mountain -- I'm going to puke." When will she compromise!
